Summer Reading Club 2020 – Dig Deeper!

General FAQs

What are the dates for the Summer Reading Club this year? June 1-July 31

Who can participate? Babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kids, teens, adults – everyone! We would love it if you have a library card, but it is not necessary to participate.

But the library’s only open for curbside pick-up and delivery! How is this going to work? Summer reading is moving online this year. We’re using a digital platform called READsquared where you’ll be able to register for an account and then log your reading and other activities online. Check out the READsquared FAQ below for more information on how to register.

I don’t have reliable access to the internet. Can I still participate? Of course! Give us a call at the library at 630-773-1699, and we can register you over the phone. Beginning June 1, there will be a staff member available to answer your calls Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, & Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. and Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5-9 p.m.

Make sure to also check out how Bookosaurus Rex signs up for the summer reading club!

Youth Summer Reading Clubs FAQs

What are the specific clubs for kids and teens this year? This year’s youth programs include Little Listeners (ages 2 & younger), Early Readers (ages 3-6), Kids (ages 7-12), and Teens (ages 13-18).

What are the reading goals and prizes for each specific club?

  • Little Listeners: Listen to 30 books and win a board book.
  • Early Readers: Read or listen to 30 books and win a bag of prizes. You’ll be entered in a grand prize drawing for every 10 books you read past 30.
  • Kids & Teens: Read for 10 hours and win a bag of prizes. You’ll be entered in a grand prize drawing for every 2 hours you read past 10.

What can be read to complete the reading goals? Basically anything! Books, audiobooks, e-books, graphic novels – they all count. Even if it’s something that you’re rereading, it counts. We encourage you to check out items from the library, but you may also count the materials you read that do not come from our collection. Reading material should be appropriate for your grade and reading level.

Can I count reading that I did before the official June 1 start date? We ask that you only count reading that you’ve done within the official dates of the club (June 1-July 31).

Are there any additional ways to win prizes? Yes! Early Readers, Kids, and Teens can complete fun missions for entries into a special grand prize drawing.

What are the prizes this year? We’re honestly not sure yet! One of the main vendors the library uses to purchase prizes is still closed because of the stay-at-home order. We’ll be working on figuring this out throughout the next few weeks and post any updates here.

When can we pick up our prizes? We don’t know for sure. Prize pick-up may be something we can eventually provide through curbside pick-up or delivery, or we may wait until the building is open to the public. We’ll keep you posted!
