Ove comes from a slower, simpler time. He likes his Saab, sausage and potatoes, getting up before six to make coffee and to make his rounds through the neighborhood. He worked for the railroad like his father but now at the age of 59, he is being made to retire after 30 years. For a man who likes order and routine, this and other changes are proving difficult for him to deal with.
At first this seems like just another funny little book about a grumpy old man. But it goes a little deeper as we learn more about Ove’s past and present, his family, neighbors, and friends and others that come into his life at a time when he just wants to be left alone.
