In the Anthologist, poet Paul Chowder is having trouble writing the introduction to a new poetry anthology as well as having trouble with his girlfriend Roz. In Traveling Sprinkler, he is thinking about starting a tobacco habit, giving up poetry for song writing while still trying to win Roz back.
I read both of these novels back to back since they are quick reads and found them both enjoyable. I don’t always get the references to certain poets or songwriters, but that always seems to spark my interest into finding out more about them almost as much as if a friend suggested that I check out a certain writer or singer, book or song.
