Tuki’s synopsis:
This novel is set in current day South Africa and tells the story of 52 year old Communications professor David Lurie. Lurie has recently been expelled from his position because of a sexual harassment suit brought against him by the parents of the student Lurie had a relationship with. Having lost his motivation for teaching, the professor doesn’t care enough to challenge the allegation. He leaves to spend time with his daughter who lives on a farm. Relations between father and daughter are strained to begin with and only intensify by a terrible incident.

She says:
I recommend this book with caution. It is a very complex, deeply disturbing book that can be read at many different levels.  I could not put the book down because I was so fascinated by the dysfunctional characters.  I learned a lot about South African history especially post-apartheid. However, if issues, like rape, sexual harassment, and racial tensions disturb you please don’t read this book. On the other hand if you’re looking for an off- beat interesting novel which will definitely stay with you, give it a try.
