Official U.S. gateway to government information. Information is categorized according to user-type, organization, or topic. Provides search engine that connects to federal, state, local, Indian tribe, and foreign government web pages that are not readily available through commercial websites.

GPO Access
Service of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) that provides free electronic access to information produced by the Federal Government. Enables users to search according to government branch, topic, or federal resources. Effective resource for information for legislative, executive, and judicial documents.

FirstGov’s Guide to the Executive Branch
Provides information regarding the executive branch. Includes links to directories for executive departments, agencies, boards/commissions/committees, and more.

United States Courts
Maintained by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. Functions as a clearinghouse for information from/about the Judicial Branch of the U.S. Government.

Thomas.gov
A service of the Library of Congress, providing current and historical legislative information.

United States Constitution
Provided by Cornell Law School’s Legal Information Institute. Preamble, Articles, and Amendments are all included. (The first ten amendments of the constitution make up the Bill of Rights).

United States Code
Provided by Cornell Law School’s Legal Information Institute. The U.S. Code is a compilation the general and permanent laws of the United States.

Ben’s Guide to Government
Although intended for a K-12 audience, this feature of GPO Access provides a general description of the U.S. federal government from which adults may also benefit.

State

State of Illinois
Official website for the state of Illinois. Serves as a gateway to information about various aspects of Illinois such as education, living, and travel.

Illinois General Assembly
Provides information on the Illinois House and Senate. Also addresses Illinois legislation and laws, reports and inquiries, and rules and regulations.

Secretary of State
Provides information on services and programs offered by the Secretary of State. Also incorporates press releases, publications, and a list of departments.

Local

Village of Itasca
Includes links to village information, schools, the Spring Brook Nature Center, park district, fire district, and police department.

DuPage County
Official website of Dupage County. Provides county news, events, announcements, and community calendar as well as information related to government services and divisions, businesses, and public services.

Illinois State Board of Elections
Website that provides information about elections in Illinois. Information organized into categories such as: campaign disclosure, election information, voting information, the board, and list of directories.

VoteSmart.org
Non-partisan organization that collects and disseminates information on candidates. Areas covered are: background information, issue positions, voting records, campaign finances, and interest group ratings.

RocktheVote.com
Non-profit, non-partisan organization that aims to increase voter turn-out among youth.

Census.gov
Official website of the U.S. Census Bureau. Provides demographic information related to population, business, and geography. Features American FactFinder and State & County QuickFacts where data can be quickly accessed by geography.

FedStats
Official statistical information from over 100 federal agencies provided by the Federal Government. Statistics related to economic and population trends, education, health care costs, aviation safety, foreign trade, energy use, farm production, and more are made available. Search for information according to topic, maps, geography, agencies, and more.

Bureau of Labor Statistics
BLS is an independent national statistical agency that collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminates essential statistical data. Statistical information collected includes the areas of: inflation, consumer spending, wages, occupations, demographics, employment/unemployment, and more.

Social Security Administration
Official website of the Social Security Administration. Provides links to information about retirement, Medicare, and disability and supplemental security income. Additional resources discuss topics such as marriage, divorce, death, related forms, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and more.

Official U.S. Government website for individuals with Medicare. Allows people to register and access personal information regarding their benefits and services.
