When You are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris
Recommended by Karyn in Youth Services...

Karyn's synopsis...
David Sedaris pulls together another set of outrageous stories from everyday moments in his life.

She says...
This book will make a great summer read, although don't be surprised when you get funny looks on the beach because you are laughing your head off.  I recommend listening to this book as well, Sedaris has a voice that makes his stories even funnier!

I Love You Beth Cooper by Larry Doyle
Recommended by Jackie in Youth Services...

Jackie's synopsis...
Nerdy high school senior Denis decides to profess his love for cheerleader Beth Cooper during his valedictorian speech.  This sets off a string of unbelievable events more exciting than Denis's last four years of school put together.

She says:
Cheesy as it may sound, I laughed out loud several times while reading this book.  It's almost like a John Hughes movie in book format.  An extra bonus - the story takes place in Buffalo Grove, so there's all sorts of suburban references thrown in that make you feel like you almost know these characters!

Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem
Recommended by Jeff in Technical Services...

Jeff's synopsis...
Lionel Essrog is a private detective suffering from Tourette's syndrome whose boss Frank Minna is murdered. Lionel and his partners, all orphans from Brooklyn are determined to find out who killed their boss.

He says...
Lionel is such a fascinating character that you don't really care who killed his boss. The author really gets us to really understand what it must be like to have Tourette's and the need to shout out obscenities, compulsively touch or act obsessively. I really wish Jonathan Lethem would write more with this character, and that's coming from someone who really doesn't like sequels.

Pomegranate Soup by Marsha Mehran
Recommended by Tuki in Adult Services...

Tuki's synopsis:
Delightful story of three Iranian sisters who escape the tyranny of the Iranian revolution to set up a Persian restaurant in the small town of Ballinacroagh, Ireland.  The mystical and exotic smells of the different spices stoke the curiosity of the locals and will surely transport you, the reader, to a different world.

She says...
Readers of the book "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris will certainly enjoy this charming read.
