Book-a-Trip Travel Kits
Summer is fast approaching! Are you going on a fun vacation? If so, pick up an application for a travel kit at the library today.
The Youth Services Department will put together a travel packet for your child containing activity sheets and reading materials based on your child’s reading interests and vacation location. This service is for Itasca card holders only and requires at least two weeks notice. For more information or to fill out a Book-A-Trip travel kit form, stop by the Youth Help Desk. You can also print the form by clicking on the green “Book-a-Trip” link above.
Children’s Book Week
Children’s Book Week (May 7-13) is the national celebration of books and reading for youth. Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running literacy initiative in the country. Each year, books for young people and the joy of reading are celebrated for a full week with author and illustrator appearances, storytelling, parties, and other book-related events at schools, libraries, bookstores, museums, and homes from coast to coast.
Check out the Children’s Book Week website and make sure to vote for your favorite books in the 2012 Children’s Choice Book Awards.
Become a Library All-Star
Visit the Youth Services Desk during National Library Week to become a Library All-Star! Stop by the Youth Department anytime during the month of April and pick up a short quiz that will test your library knowledge. Get at least five answers correct and you’ll not only win a small prize, but also have your name displayed on our Library All-Stars wall.
