Learn the basics on using your iPhone and some cool tips and tricks. We will also introduce you to popular free apps in a variety of categories such as social networking, entertainment, games, news, and shopping. Whether you’re a rookie or a weathered pro, together we will share and exchange information to enhance our iPhone experience. This session will be held at the library on Saturday, February 11 from 2-3 p.m.

Need Help Downloading eBooks?

Computer Downtime on December 14th

To continue offering the best quality of service possible, our computers systems will be unavailable from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14th. On that day, we are rolling out a new and improved computer reservation system. When systems become available, the screens will look different, but they will still function the same as before. Your library card number will continue to be the way you sign on to the computers.

Computer Classes Available

The library offers computer classes that cover basic Microsoft Office topics. There are classes on PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. All classes are hands-on and held in the Computer Lab. Classes are held on select Fridays from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Not all topics are covered every month, so please check the schedule, continue reading, or call to find out more.

Attention All Veterans

Take the AARP Driver Safety class at no charge in November! AARP will be waiving their regular course fees for all veterans as well as their spouses and children. Pre-registration is required for this two-day course held on November 19 and 20 from 1-5 both days. This course may qualify the enrolled individual for an insurance discount. Non-veterans are welcome too at a cost of $12 for AARP members and $14 for everyone else.

Download library ebooks to your Kindle

MyMediaMall now supports the popular Kindle device for eBooks. To access Kindle books on MyMediaMall simply click the add to cart link or add hold link next to the kindle graphic under the book you are interested in. This format is only compatible with Kindle devices, Kindle Apps, and Kindle for PC. If you want to use it on a different device, you should not choose this format when checking out or placing a hold.

Chicago in the Prohibition Era

New Mobile Services

With life being busier than ever, we understand that you may not always be able to come to the library. So, we are bringing the library to you by expanding our mobile services.

The first new service we are offering is Text Message Notifications. This service will send a text message to your phone when you have a hold available to pick up, when items are due soon, and overdue items and fines. It also allows you to send us a text message to renew items, and will return a message to you letting you know if it was renewed. Text messages are only sent when there is a system update to your account and usually arrives around 9 am. While the library does not charge for this service, normal text message rates from your cellular phone service provider do apply.

All you need to get started with this service is a mobile phone capable of sending text messages to an email address (it does not have to be a “smartphone”), your library card number, and your library card PIN. Please refer to the signup page for full instructions.

Our other new service is Library Anywhere. This service brings the library catalog and your account right to your fingertips an any web capable mobile phone. You can search for materials, review materials checked out on your account, place holds, renew books, see fines, and find out basic library events and information. While the library does not charge for this service, standard data usage charges from your mobile phone service provider do apply.

This service can be accessed in your mobile browser on any web capable phone by going to libanywhere.com. Alternately, smartphone users may install a Library Anywhere app on their phone from iTunes for iPhone or Android Market for Android phones.

Itasca’s Oktoberfast 5K 2011

Itasca’s third annual Oktoberfast 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Proceeds will benefit local charities providing support for families in need. More information may be found online at itasca5k.org
