Jeff’s synopsis:
David Lamb recently has three strikes against him as his father dies, his wife leaves him and he is asked to take a leave of absence from his job for having an affair with a co-worker. Tommie is an 11 year old girl who on a dare from her older, so called girlfriends approaches him for a cigarette. They come up with a plan to scare her friends when David pretends to abduct her, the unlikely pair start a friendship of sorts and end up on a trip to his cabin in the Rockies.

I enjoyed the different aspects of this novel from being a creepy, disturbing tale of David Lamb and how he draws out this fantasy of how life would be for this girl out West to the tenderness he shows her like an uncle or a father would show. I also liked that the story takes place in Lombard and although not much is described it lends a local flavor and something to relate to right off the bat.
